Community Spirit Reasons to have an allotment

A walk up to the allotment with the dog one evening really reminded me of how much more you get from renting a plot or two. So much more than an area of soil to cultivate.

Not expecting to see anyone as it was much later than my usual time to show my face. I was pleasantly surprised to see a hive of activity. All present, keen to say hello and share tips.

A quick trip to empty the compost caddy turned into an hour or so of chatter and pottering about and reminded me of all of the qualities you find on an allotment site. The sense of community, the sharing of each other's achievements and encouragement when things don't go quite as well as planned.

This fabulous community spirit that I guess is typical of sites across the country along with the great outdoors and activity for health and fitness are reasons why I love my hobby and that's before we even get to the fruit and veg!

For anyone considering taking on a plot that hasn't done it before, my advice would be absolutely, without a doubt be, give it a go!
