SUPERINTENDENT'S CORNER

Hello Dollarway Family...The year is off to a great start. I have had the opportunity to walk through all of the halls and visit many of the classrooms and I see great things happening everywhere. Our students are learning, learning, learning. It is wonderful to see how engaged and creative our teachers are, in helping to create a phenomenal environment for all-around learning, from book speed-dating, to book deals, shoe towers, mobile units and more....these positive vibes are contagious!!! Keep up the good work. We are looking for to a great turnout of Parents for our upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences. Don't forget to pay special attention to and make a note of those EARLY OUT/EARLY DISMISSAL DATES each month, beginning in September.

JAMES MATTHEWS ELEMENTARY

C.A.R.D.S. PROGRAM

As part of the PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports) program, JMES rolled out their CARDS SOAR campaign during a school wide assembly this morning. Students were super excited to join in the with their classmates. Each class created banners that represented the letters in CARDS, which stands for Compassion, Attitude, Respect, Dignity and Self-Control. The program allows students to rack up cardinal bucks for good actions and behaviors, and those bucks can be redeemed for prizes, special dress code, snacks and much more. Principal Leondra Savage and Assistant Principal David Sims spoke to students and teachers describing the program in detail, and teacher Mrs. Carrie Lee and her crew, got the crowd moving with cheers and clapping...It's going to be a great school year!

RELYANCE BANK GIVES BACK!!!

Throughout the month of August Relyance Bank has shown their dedication and support in regard to partnering with James Matthews Elementary School, where Leondra Williams serves as the principal. During this month Relyance Bank has showered teachers with snacks, students with supplies and assisted with greeting students as they reported to campus during the first days of school. The level of support received from Relyance Bank is one James Matthews is no stranger of. In past years Relyance Bank made very generous donations in the same form and financially. The funds donated are being utilized to update a campus playground structure in early October. The members of James Matthews extend their love and appreciation to the members of Relyance Bank. CAMPUS IMPROVEMENTS

Lowe's Home Improvement Store in Pine Bluff, donated several items to Robert Morehead Middle School just in time for back to school. Principal Paulette Bell, stated that the donations were given to assist with their campus's beautification project, and will go a long way in helping to approve the appearance of the campus, and provide protection from the sun when students are outside during lunch. Pictured are students and staff, taking advantage of the newly assembled outdoor fixtures and seating. The donations included several sun umbrellas, trash bins, a pop-up tent, a water dispenser, and more. The donations were valued at over $1000.00. Robert Morehead wishes to thank the following staff at Lowe's for their tremendous contribution, Kristi Grant-Head Cashier/Front End Manager, Pevelyn Dobbs-Human Resources/Lowes Heroes and Anthony Ward-Store Manager.

EAST LAB LEVELS UP!!!

RMMS's EAST Program under the leadership of EAST Coordinator, Coach James Jones, applied for and was recently awarded an EAST UpGrade Grant of over $4000, for the 2018-2019 school year. The purpose of the funds is so students and schools can keep up with the latest technology and have advanced applications at their disposal to learn and grow as individuals as they contribute to their community. We are so proud of you!!! GAME DAY ACTION!!!

Team spirit was phenomenal on game day, as our band marched into War Memorial Stadium. Our athletes ran through the tunnel and onto the field in a burst of nervous excitement. Our cheerleaders and adorable mini-cheerleaders provided amazing cheers and performances. The band kept the energy going with their performances, while band director, Mrs. Vicki Liddell, shows off her own moves.

ARKANSAS WOMEN'S HALL OF FAME HONORS DR. CAROLYN BLAKELY & FEATURES DOLLARWAY SENIOR, INFINITY WASHINGTON

Carolyn F. Blakely, Ph.D, of Pine Bluff was inducted into the Arkansas Women’s Hall of Fame Aug. 30 at the Statehouse Convention Center at Little Rock.Blakely. To honor Blakely’s induction into the Women’s Hall of Fame, FBT sponsored the competition, which was open to female high school students throughout Jefferson County. Infinity Washington, a Dollarway High School senior, was selected as the winner and attended. “Simple Night Out” allowed entrants to submit a two-minute video sharing how to help improve communication practices within their community. As the winner, Washington received a dress donated by Dillard’s, a makeover from Color Coated Creative and hair and styling, courtesy of Uptown Salon & Boutique. Sissy’s Log Cabin also loaned Washington diamond jewelry for the evening. “Meeting Dr. Blakely has inspired me,” Washington said. “Seeing a successful black woman from my community shows me that my skin color shouldn’t prevent me from reaching my goals in life.” More information about this event is featured in today's issue of the Pine Bluff Commercial, it can be accessed by visiting the link below. COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS: SKILLS TO PAY THE BILLS

Be Pro Be Proud and their mobile unit, visited the campus of Dollarway High School to help students kick off the year with planning for college & careers. Be Pro Be Proud is an initiative led by the Associated Industries of Arkansas that is spearheading the movement to bring a new generation of pride, progress, and professionals to Arkansas' skilled workforce.

Also participating in the days events were representatives from the U.S. Army, National Guard, SEARK and TOPPS organization. Students, grades 9th-12th toured the BPBP mobile unit and participated in hands on activities geared towards careers in technology and industry. B.R.A.G. PARENT INVOLVEMENT & ENGAGEMENT

B.R.A.G. Parent volunteer, Mrs. Evelyn McArthur, recently visited the campus of Dollarway High School to show support to and encourage students during their first full week back to school. She walked the halls with students, sat with them during lunch, talked about their interests, and took pictures. B.R.A.G. is a parent volunteer organization, created by Mrs. Marla J., DHS College & Career Coach, and stands for Bringing Results Academically to Graduate. The goal of the organization is to involve parents in a positive way to help bring improved academic results to our students that will encourage them to graduate and go on to become positive productive citizens.
