Kalamazoo College Women's Lacrosse 2016 Winter Newsletter

As we prepare for our 2017 season, we want to share with you some highlights from last season and introduce you to some new faces!

In 2016, the Hornets made MIAA playoffs for the first time in team history!

Goalie Katie Johnson was also named to the All-MIAA First Team and was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Year!

Hiking the Hollywood Hills and Dinner with President Gonzalez and the Occidental College Women's Lacrosse Team

The team took a Spring Break trip to California during the 2016 season, playing Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Occidental, Pomona-Pitzer, and Whittier. While in California, we were invited to dinner by current Kalamazoo College President Jorge Gonzalez, who was the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College at Occidental College before beginning at Kalamazoo this past July.

Go Hornets!

Academics First!

During Spring 2016, our team won the MIAA Team GPA award with a team GPA of 3.46. 11 of our players were also on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, meaning that they were a letter winner in a varsity sport and maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average for the entire school year: Elizabeth Arellano, Anna Dairaghi, Cecilia DiFranco, Alivia DuQuet, Emily Good, Allia Howard, Nicole Huff, Clare Jensen, Da Bin Lee, Nicole Prentice, and Vethania Stavropoulos.

This fall, we had a team GPA of 3.48 with five players on the Dean's List, five with GPAs of 3.5+ with Fall/Winter SIPs, and two studying abroad - Katie Johnson in Budapest, and Emily Good in Chile!

We graduated two outstanding seniors last season, Elizabeth Arellano and Daria Lewis. Our returning players are looking to improve on last year's success, win a conference championship, and head to the NCAA tournament!

The new Fitness and Wellness Center opened this Fall!

We have added to our coaching staff this season! We would like to welcome Mallory Frysinger, a 2016 graduate of the University of North Carolina and Emily Heckendorf, and 2015 graduate of Concordia University Wisconsin to the K Lacrosse family!

Fall on campus!

We had a productive fall ball season this fall, and it was a beautiful fall on campus! We also welcomed 4 new players to our program. Caroline Mundell is a sophomore attacker who transferred to K this year from Michigan State and we’re so happy to have her here! Mari Olson and Carmen Compton are both first years at K who have picked up lacrosse this fall after playing other sports in high school, and they have done a FANTASTIC job! And Mo Odom is a first year who was a goalkeeper for the K soccer team this fall and we are so excited to have her join us for lacrosse this spring!
