2016-2017 Curriculum Changes and Enhancements

A few weeks ago, our Curriculum Update was shared and highlighted key changes and enhancements for the 2016-2017 school year. Now that the first few weeks of school are behind us and Back to School Nights are over, stay up-to-date with our Curriculum & Assessment Department by taking another look at their Curriculum Update presentation.

CCS Help Wanted: Substitute School Nurses

Valid PA nursing license required. Send resume and copy of the license to HR@ccs.us or complete our application and submit to HR@ccs.us.

Cougar Pride Day

On the 3rd Friday of each month, CCS students are encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing Cougar Gear. What’s Cougar Gear? Cougar Gear includes CCS T-shirts, sweatshirts, etc. with our logo, usually from a CCS team, club, event, or fundraiser.

Our first Cougar Pride Day is Friday, September 16th. Students are encouraged to wear Cougar Gear T-shirts with uniform bottoms or jeans.

CCS Employee Spotlight

With so many employees working to improve Collegium and maximize the daily experiences of our students, it can be challenging to match names to faces and know everyone involved in helping CCS operate smoothly.

This Newsletter section highlights one Collegium employee each week and allows families and students to get to know them better. Now, when you see a featured employee on campus, you'll have a better chance of being able to greet them by name and strike up a conversation.

Registration Deadline Extended

The registration deadline for the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT) has been extended until Friday, September 16, 2016.

Collegium is offering the PSAT to Sophomores free-of-charge, because it is critical in fostering the college-bound mindset and a prerequisite for taking AP classes. Freshman and Juniors may take the test for a $25.00 fee and registration information has been shared with students.

The PSAT will be administered during the school day on Wednesday, October 19th. Please contact one of our High School Guidance Counselors, Mrs. Wolfe or Ms. Genzano, with questions or for more information.

Upcoming College Fair

On Friday, September 16th, CCS will host a college fair. Students in grades 9th-12th will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from colleges and universities, as well as participate in college-centered workshops.

Parents/guardians, we need your help! Talk with your children about this great opportunity. Encourage them to engage the representatives in conversations and gather as much information as possible. If your children are in grades 11th and 12th, you are invited to also attend the college fair with your CCS student. Please take a minute to RSVP for the event.

Questions?

Soccer Intramurals Registration

Soccer intramurals for students in grades 2nd-6th begin in October. To register, complete and return the registration form with payment by Wednesday, September 21, 2016. Participant rosters will be posted on the CCS Athletics webpage on September 30, 2016. Family-specific notifications regarding student participation will not be issued.

From the CCS Home and School Association (HSA)

Serving in a capacity similar to a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) or Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), our HSA owes its success to the efforts of our many parent, teacher, and staff volunteers!

The HSA is again sponsoring our Cougar Challenge!

Cougar Challenge

What's the Cougar Challenge? It's our walk/exercise-a-thon to raise money for the HSA. The HSA provides financial support to Collegium by sponsoring student-oriented projects, hosting special events for families, providing additional funds for classroom materials, and offering scholarships for uniforms and field trips.

Why walking and exercising? To acknowledge the walking required by volunteers and founders to secure the 1,000+ signatures from community members in support of initially opening Collegium.

Last year, our families raised over $26,000 and we want to exceed that amount for 2016-2017. This year’s event will be held Friday, September 30th and if each CCS family solicits just $100 in donations, we will far exceed our goal. Additional information is provided below.

*NEW* for this year - we now accept credit card donations via TicketLeap and the kindness/generosity of a TicketLeap representative, who just so happens to be a Collegium parent. If credit card purchases are preferable for your family and friends, use the link below and disregard references to "Tickets" when selecting your donation amounts.

PAWsitive Praise from HSA

The HSA sincerely thanks everyone who volunteered to work the School Stores this week. The students were so excited and each of you made that possible!

Many thanks to the families who stopped by our Back to School Night tables last week and signed-up to join the HSA. We had so much fun meeting you and are looking forward to an exciting and rewarding year! Be sure to check out our *NEW* Facebook page to see who won the Movie Night Baskets.

Our Uniform Resale Shop is located in the 500 Building and is open Monday-Friday, 9:00am-3:00pm, and 4:00pm-6:00pm. You can pick up gently used uniform pieces for greatly reduced prices. Please remember - no stains, excessive fading, or holes.

KidStuff Book Fundraiser

Last week, KidStuff Books were sent home with the oldest child (K-6th) in each family. If you’d like to keep the book, please submit payment using the form provided. If you don’t want to keep the book, please return it ASAP. Didn't receive a copy of the book for your family? Please contact your child's teacher directly.

Families with students in grades 7th-12th - if you are interested in purchasing books, please send in a payment with your children. Books are $25.00 each. Place each payment in a sealed envelope marked "ATTN: HSA." Please also include your child's name, building, and homeroom teacher information.
