Nice, not nice, Nice ( like niƩce) as in France

After a morning tour of Monaco, we traveled to Nice France. Nice is located on the Cote d'Azur or the French Riviera, northeast of St. Tropez and Cannes. This is another historical medieval town complete with walled community and narrow winding streets, but much more updated. The beach is surprisingly made up of pebbles rather than the silky sand one might expect.

Sadly, Nice last made the news in a horrible way on July 14 2016 (Bastille Day), when a terrorist plowed a truck through the crowds of revelers returning from the evening fireworks along the beach. The memorial of flowers, stuffed toy animals, and other memorabilia still remains in a town square gazebo.

Promenade du Pallion

Nice was festively enjoying the pre-Christmas season on this December 23 with an immense Christmas fair. Everyone was out enjoying the decorations, craft and gift booths, food booths and children's carnival rides. Their was even an immense statue of Santa in a giant snow globe (actually Nike, the Roman god of speed dressed up as Santa).

Our favorite time in Nice was spent walking along through the street markets looking for unique Christmas gifts. And the flower market was amazing!

The Promenade de Anglais provides the most popular stroll for along the seaside...

This is where spirits soar and romance blossoms...
