RESEARCH

ALEKSANDR RODCHENKO

This photomontage "Krisis" created by Aleksander Rodchenko is probably one of my favourite montages, I love the scruffiness about it - Im sure the fact that it was produced in 1923 had something to so with the scurfiness - I also really like the geometric shapes that are made out of the buildings cut up at the bottom of the image. Even the suites that the men in the photograph are wearing, are very boxy adding to the geometric, straight lined shapes in the montage which really stands out to me. The simplicity of the composition of the montage really grabbed my attention while doing my research.

I found this photo when looking on some tips for photomontage. It was on the tutorial website: http://www.boredart.com/2014/11/make-collage-simple-tips.html

This particular one jumped out at me because the colours and the contrast of the black and white aspects of the image. Not only in photomontages but in all photographs in general, I love all the geometric shapes and bright contrasting colours. I love the concept of "the city in their hand". The photographs used for the buildings look quite old but i couldn't find a source for the photographs. If i was to change any thing about this piece it would be that i would add in another 1 or 2 teal coloured shapes as they add something to the montage and feel it would just finish of the image and be something I would genuinely hang on my wall.

MY OWN MONTAGE

When it came round to picking a subject matter to do was fairly easy with all the political thing going on in the world right now. I mainly wanted to focus on the womans march as this happened around the time that the brief was released. So I really wanted to focus on using that in my montage.

I am a true believer in womans rights and the empowerment that women feel and preach as a gender.

I looked at some journalists photographs of the marches themselves and also spent some time on social media looking at the hashtags from the marches.

I felt that going through the social medias would show how crucial social media is in today society and how useful and important it is in documenting these types of events.

FINAL MONTAGE

This was the first montage I put together. I was fairly chuffed with the result as it was my first try at putting one together. I wanted it to show trump being oppressed by woman and how strong we actually are, and what our reactions were to his remarks about woman.

The brief did state a digital file but I wanted to try out one done by just cutting and sticking. I really liked this one too but as the it didn't meet the briefs requirements, meaning i could not submit this, but I did enjoy making it as it was a pleasant change to staring at a screen editing.

OFFICIAL PHOTOMONTAGE

My concept was to use the feminism and pussy power theme again but slightly different and to a better standard and also simpler.

I used my photographs as the background image and a few of the flowers. The other photographs were downloaded from flickr.

I then experimented with posterisation on trumps face and then I tried Black and White.

I decided that this was the best of the few edits I tried so this was my final submission for this brief
