Arok Monica Deng Leek Class of 2018 - "Light of the nation"

My Background

  • I am 21 years old
  • I am from Bor Village, in the Jonglei State in South Sudan
  • I am a member of the Dinka tribe
  • My family lives in Nimule, near LASS
  • Aiming higher, my faith and integrity are the values that define me

My Story

I am very fortunate that my family lives in Nimule - where LASS is located, so I am able to see them fairly often. Losing my mother has been a big challenge and now, unfortunately, my father is ill. When I am not studying, I enjoy reading, socializing with my classmates and singing, and basketball is my favorite sport. One of my favorite movies is the Agony of Christ. My study emphasis is in History, Entrepreneurship, Divinity and Information Communication Technology. Aside from the typical academic courses, the unique syllabus offered at LASS that includes discipleship, would not be found anywhere else.

The discipleship program renews my mind and draws me closer to Jesus Christ. Servant leadership is important to me as it brings people together and widens their vision. I have a heartfelt pull to the DR Congo and the children suffering there.

"My Vision is for South Sudan to become peaceful, and to participate in peace initiatives. If I was president I would appoint ministers and other officials from different states to solve the problem of tribalism. South Sudan needs unity to succeed." - Arok, July 2017
"In 5 years I hope to be an accountant and managing a company, which is a different path than if I had not come to LASS." - Arok, July 2017

My Vision For The Future

  • I look forward to graduating from LASS in December 2018
  • I hope to be an accountant and self employed
  • I want to be a servant leader to the people of my country
  • I hope to be able to promote peace, love and unity in my country
  • I would like to travel to Kinshasa to help the children there that are suffering

I admire Moses, because he delivered the Israelites and I would like God to use me to deliver my people from bad leadership." - Arok, July 2017

I am proud of the girl I am turning out to be." - Arok, July 2017

"Continued financial support is important because it gives me the opportunity to become a professional business person. My prayers are for my ill father, to pass my courses at LASS, and for opportunities at a university." - Arok, July 2017
