By: Amani Khan

Influencing the Church:

First influence:

  • after Pentecost is when the Holy Spirit was present in the Church
  • Along with the Apostles, the Holy Spirit was sent to preach the kerygma or essential proclamation of Jesus
  • We see the Holy Spirit influencing the church by spreading the major messages of Jesus

Main messages of Jesus:

  1. God loves and wants people to know he became flesh
  2. Jesus suffered for us
  3. Jesus is our lord and savior

Second influence:

  • Wants people to think of the Church as the "body of Christ"
  • Everyone sins, so having of the presence of the Holy Spirit allows people to feel it's eternal power
  • The Magisterium (authority of Church) is the platform from which the Holy Spirit becomes present
  • Although he is not the only one spreading Christ's teachings, the Holy Spirit gets the message to those among the Church

  • Prayer is especially difficult because we live in a world full of sin
  • Sometimes we have trouble asking for help from God and the Holy Spirit makes requests for us which cannot be changed

Reflection:

Reflection Questions:

  1. I will now be putting more thought into what is actually going on when praying. I can now understand that the Holy Spirit is the one who guides me and allows me to communicate with God. Without the Holy Spirit, there would be confusion when trying to reach Christ.
  2. I will apply what I've learned by trying to embrace the Holy Spirit with everything I do and allow that to help lead me away from sin.
  3. I will use what I've learned about the presence of the Holy Spirit during prayer to grasp the social and political issues that may concern me.
  4. This information might help us in the future by understanding that the Holy Spirit is a being and guides us tremendously. We might not think of it as a part of us but it is. The Holy Spirit guides us to do what is right and to love.
