On the eighth day of Christmas...

...we learned to be creative

This Christmas, we're dishing out bite-size, top tips to remind us of the importance of play and realise just how many skills can be developed along the way.

Skill 7: Creativity

Top tip:

During sessions, allow children to put their own spin on an activity

Creativity is so important and easy to develop with physical activity

You could help them to create a story:

Go on an imaginary adventure pretending to be an animal in the jungle.

Maybe you're all monkeys:

  • What's their name?
  • What colour is their fur?
  • How tall are they?

Here you can let their imagination run wild whilst incorporating Fundamental Movement Skills into the adventure. They could reach for fruit on the tip of their toes, or act like a monkey whilst performing a seated balance.

With this style of delivery the options are limitless and that's the attitude you'll reinforce in each child.

real play supports families to play and learn together. Not only does it allow families precious time to bond and share moments of pure fun and joy, it also provides them with the skills they need to be a healthy and active unit.
