The Book Perks of Being a Wildflower is about how fifteen-year-old Charlie is trying to cope with the death of his friend Michael. To lessen the fear and anxiety of starting high school alone. Then, Charlie starts writing letters to a stranger someone he had heard was nice, but he had never met in person.

The Perks of Being a Wildflower was banned in 2009. This book was banned because book because of drugs, friendship, body image, first love, suicide, eating disorders and sexuality. It was banned in schools and even some libraries. Some schools such as in California, Pennsylvania, and Florida. The Perks of Being a Wildflower has been banned since 2002.
