AB ED UPDATE

Trimester 3 is going incredibly fast! We are gearing up for two big events in June --> Central’s Aboriginal Day and School District 59's Aboriginal Appreciation / Awards Evening.

Our Aboriginal Day at Central will happen the morning of June 11. Our students & staff will be participating in Aboriginal arts and games. There will be a free BBQ for our students and staff for lunch.

June 13 is our District Aboriginal Appreciation / Awards Evening at DCSS: South Peace Campus. Students are nominated by staff and family members for outstanding achievement. If you think your son/daughter should be nominated, please email myself (Kirsten Davies) at kdavies@sd59.bc.ca. Students who are chosen for the awards will be given a letter to let them know they will be receiving an award. Everyone is welcome to attend this celebration and join us for a free BBQ! I hope to see you there. ☺ submitted by Kirsten Davies, Coach-Mentor/Ab Ed Dept.

Our Afternoon with Cody Deaner on Friday, May 3 was a smash hit! It was Cody's first visit to BC from Ontario. He also praised our students for being so friendly and welcoming. His message about the 'power of perseverance & influence' also had a profound impact on our audience. Thanks Cody for joining us!

Getting Ready for 2019 - 2020!

Pod Structure continues

Students will be in ONE of three Pod groups (Pod A, B or C) for their Academics, Health & PE and Option courses. Pod 9 Academics will be with THREE teachers for 4 of their 7 blocks schedule, blocks A - G.

Current Grade 8s have selected their Option 9 requests for next year. They requested seven choices they are most interested in. Our Gr. 9s will have six Option 9 courses next year.

2019-20 Student Schedules will be sent home ~ late June

Blocks A-G, Days 1 - 7 and 5 blocks/day continue

On Thursday, May 9, our grade 8/9 French Immersion class at Central hosted a cultural event. Anne Glover, a “string story teller” visited Central and gave three workshops in our CRC. Grades 10, 11, and 12 French Immersion from DCSS also attended, as did the French Immersion group from Chetwynd. Students learned many string tricks from Ms. Glover and enjoyed her presentation in French. Afterward students from Chetwynd and our French Immersion had a pizza lunch and time to use their French with each other. C’était excellent! Submitted by Ms. Percy

Our Latest addition for fun activity - Gaga Pit

Gaga is a fast paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The more players the better! Dubbed a kinder gentler version of dodge ball, the game is played with a soft foam ball, and combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees.

Thanks Mr. Roszmann for building our ga-ga pit.

Locate on our school field near the Shop. Many classes & visiting Grade 7s have participated in playing. So far so good!

May 24-25 ~ District's Annual Adventure Races @ Gwillim Lake~ Our four proud Central Campus teams having a blast!!

STAFF UPDATES

We wish Ms. Hanson-Bailey all the best as she is leaving on her Maternity Leave very soon! Stay in touch after the baby is born! Tracy Cox from Dawson Creek will be filling in to teach Pod 9C English and Option classes until the end of June, except Tuesdays. Kathy Corr will fill in on the last four Tuesdays.
