Hope on the Horizon A FAMILY AFFAIR 2018

The 9th annual A Family Affair, held November 14 at Atlanta’s Cherokee Town and Country Club, was a celebration of the powerful community that makes Emory’s progress in Alzheimer’s disease research and care possible.

This year’s event generated more than $760,000 to advance discovery toward a cure.

“The one thing Alzheimer’s can never take away from our family is our love for one another, and that’s what tonight is about. We are grateful to be part of the Emory family. And we are so thankful for each of you being here with our family tonight.”

The Power of Hope

In less than a decade, A Family Affair has raised more than $4 million for Alzheimer’s disease research at Emory. This year’s video celebrates our successes, honors the McKinley family, and features two special partners who have made transformational gifts: The Goizueta Foundation and The James M. Cox Foundation.

“We have the most important mission that I can imagine in science and medicine—to cure brain diseases. These are devastating illnesses confronting our children and future generations. That’s what’s motivating us to leverage the strengths of the Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center into a holistic approach to brain health.”

ALLAN LEVEY, MD, PhD, Director, Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center

“Looking at this room full of people who are dedicated to solving the problems of the brain is really exciting. In growing numbers, communities of patients, family members, philanthropists, multidisciplinary teams of providers, scientists, engineers, and students are investing their time, their talent, and their passion in the challenging work that’s ahead of us for complex brain illnesses.”

JONATHAN LEWIN, MD, Executive Vice President for Health Affairs; Executive Director, Woodruff Health Sciences Center

“We live by the grace and mercy of God, and therefore we should show some of that grace and mercy to others. I think that’s what this community stands for. God has blessed you, and you’re sharing your blessings with the rest of us.”

ANDREW YOUNG, former Atlanta mayor and ambassador to the United Nations
