Knightly News 9-14-2018 edition

This week, our first full week of school, featured our Welcome Back Dance pictured above. Our students had a wonderful time celebrating the start of the school year. Students were dancing, playing basketball, socializing and eating a ton of pizza and snacks thanks to our PTO. Thank you to the many parents that volunteered during lunch to sell tickets/bracelets and during the event yesterday to provide food and drinks. Please enjoy scrolling through out Knightly News for more great stories from this week and important information and reminders for upcoming weeks.

Shake it off!
Our teachers Mrs. D'Orazio, Ms. Brennan, and Mrs. Walls dancing with our kiddos!

Throughout the start of school our social studies classrooms have been exploring the importance of studying history, what history means to them, and defining history through art and design. Students have created many beautiful posters connecting their thinking to their history classes.

On October 4th students are invited to join Mrs. Chatel after school in the media center for Book Club. Students will be discussing last year's Troybery winner Refugee by Alan Gratz.

Team Building in Gym? Yes Please! Kids had a blast working together through the obstacle course.

Mrs. Cooper and Mr. Morris's classes

Mrs. Baran's students sharing about themselves through visual arts and writing. Each student took time to decide on their Power Word for the year. Their creativity and dedication to this work is inspiring!

The meetings will take place at 7:00 p.m. at Smith on 10/4, at BPMS on 10/9, at Baker on 10/10, and at Larson on 10/11. Parents may attend any of the meetings at any of the schools for convenience.

Open House Information:

Open house is Thursday September 20th at 7:00 pm. Please plan to arrive to our Open house 15 minutes early at 6:45 pm to join with us as we "cut the ribbon" and celebrate the grand opening of our little library.

Parents please be sure to bring with you a device with your child's schedule, or print a copy to expedite your travel to your first class visit. A quick and easy way to keep your child's schedule is to take a quick screenshot of it from Schoology or Powerschool Parent Portal.

Smith Box Tops collection:

Smith Middle School is collecting Box Tops again this school year! Please begin collecting them and turn them in at the Smith front office. We will have a contest from now until Monday, October 22 – for every 10 Box Tops that you bring in, you will be entered into a raffle for a $10 Dairy Queen gift card. Please make sure you write your name and grade on the envelope with your Box Tops. Please contact Cari Coffer, Box Top Representative for Smith at colorcc.222@gmail.com. Thank you for your support!

Daily Announcements

Each day a dedicated team of Smith Knights prepares morning announcements for our students. I have the pleasure to work with them most mornings to share a few spirited words to start off our day. Although our announcements are live each morning, they are recorded and placed on our website daily so that you too can keep up to date with our goings on at Smith.

Spirit Week

Spirit week is highlighted in the Smith Weekly Notes below. However, students will be purchasing a chance to be entered into a raffle to participate in bubble soccer at our pep assembly. 2 tickets for a dollar. 10 kids from each grade will win a chance to be on the team and play for their grade.
