Canbury School Newsletter 6th September 2019. issue 167

Dear Parents and Visitors

And we're off! I do love a new school year. Everything is bright and exciting. We are all hopefully rested and now ready for the academic challenges as well as exciting extra curricular activities and opportunities which lie ahead.

New school year: familiar and new faces came through the door on Wednesday morning. You're all part of the Canbury family now.

I must say it was a great sea of familiar and new faces which greeted me at the start of the first two days of term, which saw nearly 40 staff in for INSET training on Monday and Tuesday. Then on Wednesday the real fun began, as we opened the doors to the students. How smart did they look?! Let's see if we can keep up such polished appearances. A new school year always takes a few days to bed down, but I am enormously cheered by such a great start to this academic year 2019 - 2020. Welcome to everyone!

The new mobile phone policy has already had a most positive influence - it's been lovely to see students looking relaxed and talking to each other, the younger ones playing together, and not a hunched body in sight poring silently into a screen at break time. I wish I'd done it earlier!

Back to basics - fresh air, ball games and not a mobile in sight.

Our sixth Formers enjoyed two days away this week (we don't hang around at Canbury) taking part in team bonding activities at Calshot Activites Centre near Southampton. As you can see from the photos below, there was no holding them back.

Highlights from these two days include Jasmina's 10 in archery, Miya making the top of the climbing wall, and everyone loving skiing.

May I remind parents/carers that ALL students should be in school to play their part on Open Morning, which takes place on Saturday 21st September from 10am to 12 noon. Students should be in full school uniform, and will be given roles to carry out, such as being in subject classrooms helping with presentations, showing off their PE skills in the playground or escorting parents on tours of our wonderful school. There will be jobs for all, so please don't worry if front of house isn't your thing, we can find a suitable task for everyone. I like to think of this morning as an opportunity for our students to give something back to Canbury. Perhaps over dinner you might remind them how lucky they felt when they realised they would be joining Canbury - this is their chance to extend that hope to others.

Well done everyone on such a cracking start to the new school year. Enjoy your weekend and we will see you bright and breezy on Monday morning at 8.10am.

Kind regards

Ms Clancy
