ACT Writing How to tackle the act and act aspire essay

In the ACT and ACT Aspire, you have 40 minutes to write a five paragraph essay.

Wait...what?

What do I do first?

1. Pre-write: Once you read the prompt, decide what the prompt is asking.

The question asks if the increase in power and how far technology reaches betters our lives.

1. Pre-write: Create an outline. Don't go into your essay without having a plan! Your outline should include:

Your perspective may be in full agreement with any of the others, in partial agreement, or wholly different. Whatever the case, support your ideas with logical reasoning and detailed, persuasive examples.

2. Write: You should have around 35 minutes to write your essay. Give yourself about 5-7 minutes to write each paragraph. Take any remaining time to read over your essay and revise as necessary.

Let's practice! As a class, make a practice outline using the prompt above. Give yourself no more than 5 minutes. Work together to create a thesis with specific examples to back up your claim. Make sure you also acknowledge the other perspectives!
