Goal: Students at White Oak Elementary will increase proficiency in number sense.
According to the IDOE, "The process standards demonstrate the ways in which students should develop conceptual understanding of mathematical content, and the ways in which students should synthesize and apply mathematical skills."
Students at White Oak will enhance their skills in the following areas specially in relation to number sense:
Areas of Immediate Improvement
As uncovered by the ISTEP+ data below, White Oak has found a major discrepancy between male and female students. The majority of students that did not pass the ISTEP+ assessment were males. Therefore, immediate improvement needs to be given to the understanding of how boys and girls learn differently.
Monitoring Growth Towards Our Goal Through Assessments
Just as the NCTM stated, "Assessment should be more than merely a test at the end of instruction to see how students perform under special conditions; rather it should be an integral part of instruction that informs and guides teachers as they make instructional decisions."
White Oak teachers will be administering a myriad of assessments to closely monitor progress of individual students.
Assessments are age- appropriate and may include individual interviews, pre- and post- assessments, baseline assessments, mid-unit checkpoints, and performance tasks.
