Manaus - Gateway City to the Amazon Rainforest
The city of Manaus, capital of the state of Amazonas, is the main gateway to the largest equatorial rainforest on the planet. The city has an excellent infra-structure for receiving visitors, with many hotel options and restaurants of international standards. But Manaus’ main asset is its baroque architectural gems such as the Teatro Amazonas, an Italian-style neoclassical opera house built at the height of the rubber boom in 1896 and the Palacio Rio Negro dating back to the colonial Era.
Anavilhanas Lodge’s chef utilizes the abundant fresh ingredients that the Amazon supplies to create delicious meals that earn rave reviews from guests. Daily excursions include rainforest hikes, reconnaissance tours of the archipelago, cave explorations, visits to the local caboclo villages, dolphin sightings, sunrise excursions, and canoeing in the backwaters and byways of the Rio Negro River system.
