THE FIRST WORLD WAR

After the assassination in Sarajevo of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914, the Europe precipited in war.

Germany and Italy became allies , than there were six Europe nations involved. They created two alliances: the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente.

The Battle of the Marne.

The battle turned into a trenchwar.

1915 The multiplication of fronts.

1916 The War of Attrition.

Germany fought a battle of attrition in Verdun , against the french-britain army in the 1916 . The battle of Verdun was a significant event for the enormous number of victims.(One milion ).

The Year 1917

On 2 April 1917 the United States of America decided to join the war.

The Battle of Caporetto.

In the autumn 1917,there was an attack by Austro-Hungaric and German forces that forced Italy to give up stretches of territory.

1918 the Last Quarter Hour.

On the Western Front, the German army had a momentary superiority in troop numbers . This superiority was caused by the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk wich the Russian Army retired from war, but this advantage was no longer than the arrival of American Army.

The Last Hundred Days on the Western Front.

Western Front became in that moment the fulcrum.The 11 November at the 11 o'clock, was signed at Rethondes the Armistice.
