What's cool at Mercy School!

On the 23rd of May, Sixth Class went to a Spikeball blitz in the Presentation Gym hosted by the transition year students. We were put into four groups, Mercy Red, Mercy Green, Mercy Blue and Mercy Yellow. We played against each other and the other participating schools. It was a very competitive yet enjoyable day. It was a great way to finish off our Spikeball lessons taught by the transition year girls. Míle Buíochas to all involved in organising these very worthwhile sessions for us.

"Live your Goals" is an initiative promoting girls soccer, that we were delighted to participate in. Over 100 children took part on Wednesday the 7th of June at the local Celtic pitch. There were a variety of enjoyable activities. We were divided into groups according to our ages. It was an amazing day even though the weather wasn't ideal. We were also given a free jersey! Thanks to everyone for such an enjoyable experience.

Two weeks ago all of the classes from First to Sixth went to St. Mary's Cathedral for a May Procession in honour of Our Lady. Sixth class led us in prayer and a decade of the rosary was prayed at different locations in the church associated with Mary. Hymns were sung and we heard the story of Our Lady of Fatima. It was a lovely prayerful time.

We recently had our annual Active Week. Throughout the week each class had 2/3 activities every day. We were always out and about and doing different sports. Some of the activities we participated in were; Yoga, Zumba, Football, Skipping, Badminton, Orienteering, Rowing, Cricket, Soccer, Buntús, Basketball and Tae-Kwando. Every class participated in a Fun Walk and a Walk A Mile With A Smile. On Friday we had our Sports Day in the Crokes Pitch. The Junior and Senior Infants held their Sports Day in the school. The weather was lovely and we all had a wonderful day. A big Thank You to Karen who organised all of the activities during the week. A big Thank You also to anyone who volunteered or helped out in anyway during the week.

Congratulations to 2nd Class who received their First Holy Communion on May 6th. A wonderful day was had by all.

On Wednesday the 28th of June, our sixth class pupils will be graduating. Some of the graduates have been in our school for over eight years! There are thirty five pupils graduating. All of the teachers are sad to see them go. The ceremony will be led by Fr. Niall Howard. The ceremony will include story,song and prayer. All sixth class parents are welcome. It will be on at 1:30pm in the hall. We wish our girls all the best in secondary school and in the future.

Everyone in the school takes part in a fun walk every year during Active Week. This year all of the classes went to many different locations around Killarney . We would like to sincerely thank all of the sponsors who sponsored our school, that money will be put to great use. We would also like to thank Karen and the Active team for putting all of this together. We greatly appreciate all the work and time put into this years active week .

A few weeks ago lady named Maureen Griffin came and gave 5th and 6th a Internet Safty Talk. She taught us how dangerous the Internet can be and how to use it safely .

Animation studio

Teachers from four schools across Europe visited Holy Cross in May as part of an ERASMUS + project. They taught the teachers and students about the use of iPads in the classroom. Digital leaders attended a training day where they learnt about Animation, Coding and Digital music making. The children were presented with T-shirts, certificates and badges. The teachers attended a training day and over 50 teachers from other schools around Kerry joined the staff of Holy Cross to gain expertise in technology.

For our School Tour this year, 4th -6th Class went to Active Kingdom in Tralee on June 1st. We got a bus to Tralee and participated in fun games and activities there. Most activities were on inflatables. We had great fun. Some of our favourite activities were The Drop Zone and The Big Red Balls. Thanks to all our teachers for organising such a great school tour.

4th class had swimming lessons in the Aquila club in the Gleneagle for three weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We were divided into three groups: eleven in one group, six in another and five in the last. Everyone enjoyed going swimming and got their certificates on 16th of June.
