LATEST NEWS

As we begin the month of May, we reflect on a year of many challenges, but also a year of collaboration, dedication, grit and hard work. With Teacher Appreciation Week beginning next week, we would like to take a moment to acknowledge our incredible staff! This year pushed our thinking, and made us come up with creative and engaging solutions! Countless hours were spent planning lessons, learning a new platform (Seesaw/Canvas) and finding new ways of connecting with students. We would also like to thank our parents and guardians who took on an even more active role as co-teachers at home!

Teacher Appreciation Week

Our Corey Cubs PTA has planned a Teacher Appreciation Week to remember! We are so thankful for the support of our parents and community. Thank you for letting our staff know how much they are appreciated. The Decades of Appreciation Activities are listed below for anyone who is interested in participating.

Corey Academy PTA Decades of Appreciation

third grade dance recital

In following our yearly tradition, our Third Grade students completed an integrated unit of Dance Around the World. They learned information about their specific countries, including a dance choreography. Virtual and in person dancers were able to perform a live dance recital over Zoom. This special event happens annually, and even though we may not have the exact set up as our previous performances, the students were very excited to perform in this setting! A huge thank you to all our talented Third Grade students, the Third Grade teachers, the Multiple Intelligence team, and Mrs. Evans for making this event possible.

Third Grade Dance Recital

second grade piano recital

Our Second Grade students have been working hard all year to learn their Piano Recital music. We are so thrilled that our virtual and in person students had an opportunity to shine, as they performed their musical pieces. Mrs. Phelps and the Multiple Intelligence team is finalizing a video that will include the live performances as well as video submissions. We are in awe of the dedication and commitment shown by our students, our parents, the Second Grade teachers, the Multiple Intelligence team and our amazing Mrs. Phelps. Thank you to all who made this event possible.

what's your big idea contest

We are so proud of all our Corey Cubs who participated in the 15th Annual “What’s Your Big Idea?” Entrepreneurship Contest! Corey Academy was one of six schools to receive the recognition of "Top Participating Campuses". We also had 47 students who earned the distinction of "finalist" in the contest. Way to go, Corey Cubs! Students could be a finalist in the Art Category, the Essay Category (or both). Students who are finalists in both areas are listed twice. Please see modified slide below from the virtual awards (we have taken off the last names for privacy reasons).

Three of our students won First Place: Jack C., Emmalyn T. and Chloe B. Congratulations!

Our finalists and winners were honored in a drive-thru parade at UTA. We would like to thank the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce: Partners In Education Committee for providing an opportunity for our students to showcase their innovation and creativity!

summer learning

AISD will be offering several summer learning opportunities this summer. Teachers will be making recommendations and parents will also be able to fill out an application for their child/children. Priority will be given to students who are in need of additional instruction. Please see message below from AISD:

PK-6 PARENT APPLICATIONS AND TEACHER RECOMMENDATION ACCEPTED FROM MAY 3-14

The 2021 PK-6 Learning Takes You Places summer learning program is the summer fun your child wants and the summer learning your child needs! All students will sharpen their reading, writing and math skills while participating in fun and interesting academic classes and take part in exciting enrichment activities. Each day is designed to help make sure your child does not forget what they learned this year and better prepares them for success next year and beyond.

There is no cost to attend! All students receive breakfast, lunch, and transportation to and from their home campus daily. Students and families have three session dates to choose for their summer learning experience. All sessions off in-person and remote learning.

Three week Session 1: Monday, June 7 until June 25

Three week Session 2: Monday, July 6-July 23

Six week Session 3: Monday, June 7 until June 25 and Monday, July 6-July 23

Invitations to attend 2021 Learning Takes You Places will be sent on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. to the parent email address listed on the student application. Space is limited.

We will provide additional information through Class Dojo, including information about our Enrichment Camp with Jones Academy in July.

Asynchronous Days

The Texas Education Agency has approved the Arlington ISD's request to modify the asynchronous plan to include four days of asynchronous instruction for students during the spring. This time will allow teachers additional planning time and the ability to connect with parents. There will still be school on the four days, but all lessons will be asynchronous (recorded), and schools will be closed to students. Attendance will be taken on those days and meal service will be available at the 30 student meal locations on our Return to School site.

Our next asynchronous day is Monday, May 17th.

Please remember that students will need to engage in Seesaw or Canvas on the asynchronous days. There will be no Zoom/Teams Meetings or in-person school on those days.

end of year events

We look forward to our various End of Year events. Our End of Year events may look a bit different this year, due to the protocols that need to be followed due to COVID. Thank you for your continued support as we celebrate our students' many accomplishments. We will let you know if there are any changes/updates to our schedule.

Martin High School Seniors - Corey Academy Reunion

We would like to invite our Corey Cubs who are graduating from Martin HS to a Reunion on Monday, May 24th at 4:00 p.m. We are so proud of their accomplishments! Please help us spread the word.

Change of Instructional Setting

  • Please remember to fill out the form when there are changes (virtual to in-person, or in-person to virtual). There is up to a five day waiting period to change from virtual to in-person.
  • Please communicate with your child's teachers and the front office when there will be a change (for example an in-person student who will miss school due to a doctor's appointment).
  • Please remember that consistency is key to student success. Constantly changing the instructional setting causes a disruption to your child's learning. We are aware that there are extenuating circumstances that may necessitate the change, but we ask that every effort be made to provide students with consistency.
  • We need accurate and up-to-date information in order to complete contact tracing (when needed), appropriately prepare materials, and prepare for district testing.

District COVID-19 Reporting Protocol

School websites at every campus now have a COVID-19 dashboard on their home page. The dashboard lists notices of "possible exposure" on each campus and is updated daily. You will not receive an email every time there is a "possible exposure" at a campus as those notices will be placed on the website. However, if your child has been in "close contact" with someone who has tested positive or is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, you will receive an email and follow-up support from Arlington ISD officials. Corey Academy staff members will be calling you directly if your child is a "close contact" with someone who has tested positive or is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
