Bible study on joy

Where does the power to persevere and thrive in the call of God on your life come from?
Hebrews 12:2 - Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Joy is something that cannot be taken away. It can be given away, dismissed or misplaced. But, it can't be taken from you.

The Gift of Joy

Isaiah 58

Set the oppressed free, work for justice, make relationships right, walk in obedience before God and then…

You will find your joy in the Lord.

Romans 15:13 - May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The joy that we are called to live with comes from the power of the Holy Spirit. Even Jesus was filled with joy in the Holy Spirit (Luke 10:21). But, what can we do to open the way for the Holy Spirit to fill us with joy?

Roll away the stone. What can you do to make a way for the miracle of God to be revealed, for joy to flood your spirit (John 11:38-41)?
  • Know and live the promises of God (2 Peter 1:3-4).
  • Delight in God's boundaries, the Word of God (Psalm 119).
  • Take joy in God's conviction (Nehemiah 8:8-10).
  • Shout and sing for joy (Psalm 27:6).
  • Give joy to others (Isaiah 58).
