Loneliness Final project 2016

Universal theme: The loneliness within may lEad to THE DEVASTATION outside

"Of Mice and Men"

"If you don' want me I can g off in the hills an' find a cave. I can go away any time." "No—look! I was jus' foolin', Lennie. 'Cause I want you to stay with me."

In this example from Of Mice and Men, it explains how both George and Lennie are lonely when they are together. This shows that poor Lennie almost literally offers to go off on his own if George doesn't want him anymore, but George doesn't really want the chance to stay in a whorehouse for as long as he wants.

"The Chrysanthemums"

"She tried not to look as they passed [the chrysanthemums in the road], but her eyes would not obey. She whispered to herself sadly, 'He might have thrown them off the road. That wouldn't have been much trouble.'"

Elisa's headed to town for a fun night out with her husband. She should be in good spirits, and excited to spend some time with her husband. Instead, this is one of the loneliest moments in the story. Although she is very close from her husband, he has no idea what's happening in her mind and heart.

"Tularecito"

"Tularecito fought with hands, feet, teeth and head. He admitted to honorable rules and in the end, he won. The whole school, with Miss Moran guarding its rear, fled from the building, leaving the enraged Tularecito in possession."

In this quote from Tularecito, it explains his anger towards people when others touch his drawings. This shows that with his disability he is not very controlling. In addition, this shows the loneliness he has with others and how Tularecito rages when other people touch his drawings.

"The Virgin Suicides"

On the surface the Lisbons appear to be a healthy, successful 1970s family living in a middle-class Michigan suburb. Mr. Libson is a math teacher, his wife is a rigid religious mother of five attractive teenage daughters who catch the eyes of the neighborhood boys. However, when 13-year-old Cecilia commits suicide, the family spirals downward into a creepy state of isolation and the remaining girls are quarantined from social interaction (basically from the boys) by their eagerly protective mother. But the strategy backfires, their loneliness makes the girls even more intriguing to the obsessed boys who will go to absurd lengths for the answer of the sisters deaths.

As a result I have learned that when people are lonely it may lead to bad endings and many other bad problems. In conclusion, loneliness is not good and will cause devistating times.
