The Greek's Philosophy Gregory Dick WOH

A big change in history, was when the scientific theory of "philosophy" was introduced, it began in Anatolia. Greek's natural philosophy sparked a new thought of how the world was created, and many other things that we still use today and call modern science. Before philosophy the Greeks believed in mythology "In ancient Greece, stories about gods and goddesses and heroes and monsters were an important part of everyday life. They explained everything from religious rituals to the weather, and they gave meaning to the world people saw around them"1.

Secular philosophy was studied by Aristotle and Plato, they explored science, logic, and literature. Pythagros studied mathematics and invented the Pythagros theorem which is a formula we still use today in geometry. Epicurus' philosophy was Skepticism and he explored the thoughts and ideas of "centrality of matter, the soul is not immortal, and if God exists he is indifferent to human affairs" 2

Greek's sparked many questions among each other

"What is justice?"

"What is the difference between right and wrong?"

"What should we teach the young?"

(Youtube, 2009)3

Wise men among the civilization sought out to answers these questions and thats how natural philosophy came to be.

Politics even got explored by philosophers at the time. those with political pessimism, or the belief that mankind is basically evil, will form a society designed to restrain mankind from wrongful doing (Fernández-Armesto, Felipe). Those with political optimism, or the belief that mankind is basically good, will structure a more unrestrained society around free expression and equality (Fernández-Armesto, Felipe).2
Philosophers, such as Plato and Aristotle opened their own schools in Athens.

Today we still see Greek's natural philosophy used, whether its in math or if we are discussing a myth about god and the creation of the universe "a world beginning without prior matter"4
