The God of Beauty A Bible Study from Genesis 1

From the dawn of creation, God's beauty has been shining. He has been calling out, "Look at Me. I am the most beautiful, the most wondrous, the most glorious One ever."
Genesis 1:3 - And God said, "Let there be light...."
God makes his beauty clear and understandable by giving us light. He brings an ability to differentiate between light and dark, different colors, different forms of beauty.

James 1:17 - Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

God never turns off the lights. He does not change or get moody. He is consistent in all his ways.
Why is it that we do not always experience his good and perfect gifts?
We see color when light is reflected. Your thanksgiving is the reflection of God's good gifts. When you give thanks, you experience the beauty of his gifts.
Genesis 1:10 - "...and God saw that it was good." This is God's comment on his own creation. It is beautiful.

Genesis 1:11 - Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so.

God's beauty shines in his order, his provision and his abundance.
Genesis 1:20 - And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.”
God's beauty shines in his creation of incredible variety.
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground. Genesis 1:26
God saves his most beautiful creation for last. The man and woman. He stamps them with a personal beauty... a beauty like God's beauty. What does that mean to be made in the image of God?
To be made in God's image... how is God's beauty displayed humans?
  • Our creativity
  • Our ability for intimacy in relationship
  • Our ability to relate with God
  • Our ability to exercise authority
  • Our ability to appreciate beauty
  • Our ability to partner with God in bringing his kingdom to this earth
Take time to admire God's beauty today. That's called worship. Begin reflecting his beauty by thanking him. The more thanksgiving you speak out, the more beauty you will see.
