Inequality Joe and janies marriage isnt fair

In Joe and Janie's marriage, Joe shows that she isn't happy with her making a speech to the town. " but mah wife don't know nothin' 'bout no speech-makin'. Ah never married her for nothin' lak dat. She a woman and her place is in de home."(pg. 43)

Janie feels like she is the bell cow. "She must look on herself as the bell-cow, the other women were her gang."(pg. 41)

Joe does not allow Janie to have her hair down and visible to anyone. "Whut make her keep her head tied up lak some ole 'Oman round de store? Nobody couldn't git me tuh tie no rag on mah head if ah had hair lak dat."(pg. 49)
