Transcontinental Railroad

The Transcontinental Railroad was a project started in the late 1850's that vastly improved transportation from the East Coast to the West Coast. It was also a race between two rivaling companies to see who would reach the other first.

A majority of the workers on the railroad were either Irish or Chinese immigrants, Irish workers in the east, Chinese in the west.

They eventually met in Utah and drove the Golden Spike signaling the end of the struggle of creating the railroad across the country.
