MISSION
To establish an ongoing relationship with the Zeman Elementary School community by providing support and encouragement for the students and staff.
Seeing our church not only pour into our own ministries but also go beyond the walls, make relationships, and reach out to our neighbors takes us, I believe, one step closer to being the church Jesus gave His life for. -Pastor Jason, Horizons
Snack Attack
Each quarter snacks for Zeman staff were provided by Horizons members. In December, a soup lunch was served to the staff along with Christmas cookies decorated by Fusion students.
CLOTHING CLOSET
A supply of sweatshirts and socks for students who arrive at school not dressed for colder weather was collected. Donations from ArtFX and Horizons members, in addition to purchases from budgeted funds, established this collection. A Target gift card was also donated to allow the Zeman principal to purchase shoes for students whose families were unable to buy them.
School Supply Drive
Horizons members collected 287 items in a joint DZ-Zeman supply drive. Zeman items were given to students whose families could not afford to purchase crayons, pencils and markers. In addition, Horizons purchased 25 timers for teachers to use in the classroom.
Carnival and Color Run
Horizons members helped facilitate games at the annual Zeman Carnival in September and high school students assisted with the Zeman Color Run in October.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
1,350 box tops were collected by Horizons members translating into $135 of free money. These funds help the school make miscellaneous purchases not provided for in its budget. Collections will continue in October and February each year.
Easter Turkey Dinners
Ten Zeman families were gifted with complete turkey dinners on the Saturday before Easter. All dinners were delivered by Horizons members.
Random Acts of Kindness
Proceeds from the free-will donation collected at Horizons Easter breakfast were used to pay off lunch account balances for 14 Zeman families (18 individual students) who were financially unable to get caught up with their LPS lunch account debts.
Book Drive Purchases
To encourage literacy growth during the summer months, 38 English Language Learner students were presented with a book purchased by Horizons from the Zeman Book Fair.
partnership pairing
Six Horizons members regularly volunteered at Zeman throughout the school year. These volunteers listened to students read aloud, helped with spelling words, practiced math facts and provided individual attention to students.
Thank you for all you have done, and are doing, for Zeman. I appreciate everything and do not have the words to express my gratitude. —Principal Kristi Schirmer, Zeman
