January 2017 (1st Quarter)

The President's Corner

As we begin the New Year it’s time to take a moment to reflect on 2016. Legend accomplished many things over the past twelve months, too many to mention here, but we could not aspire to greatness without the continuing support, dedication, and contributions from you and your fellow team mates. It is in that spirit that we wish to thank each and every one of you for all that you do to contribute to the success of Legend and support of our customers. We are proud of you. You work together to accomplish what others didn’t think was possible. You are a part of the finest group of people we’ve ever had the opportunity to lead. Bravo Legend.

As we go into 2017 with new leadership in the White House, let’s hope that this administration chooses wisely to facilitate and nurture a good business climate. Tax restructuring and the reduction of crippling regulations are two areas that could provide a much needed boost to the U.S. economy. These prospects alone have most economic analysts predicting a breakout from the anemic GDP of the past 8 years (the worst economic performance since the Great Depression). However, if a trade war breaks out, all bets are off. Let’s hope that cooler heads prevail so we can get down to business and focus on growing our company without the bureaucrats creating obstacles.

As always, Legend intends to invest heavily in our company’s infrastructure and service capabilities over the next twelve months. Mike Boehk is in the process of writing the specifications for the next extruder for our manufacturing operations and we are very close to pulling the trigger on our Auburn Hills campus expansion after having received approval for the project from the Auburn Hills City Council. Additional expenditures are required to support our extrusion operations and we will focus on continuous improvements in quality and product excellence in this area of our business. These two projects alone represent nearly $5,000,000.00 in investments, a hefty sum. It is possible that the building expansion may be delayed, but it is on the docket for now. Our C-commerce initiative, portal upgrades, and additional technology investments such as voice-to-pick are also on track for 2017. As a result of our Cloud migration, we continue to strengthen our technical capabilities while reducing our dependency on hardware and its associated costs.

Of course, all of these initiatives require a rock solid balance sheet and continued sales growth. So rest assured that Legend is steadfastly committed to strengthening our company in all of these areas as we look for a new and exciting mechanisms to continue our quest for excellence in everything that we do.

Good Selling!

SmartClick™ is five times faster to install than any other PE-RT or PEX fitting. In seconds you have a permanent connection without using any tools. No measuring, crimping, cinching, expansion tools, or go/no go gauges are necessary when using this patented connection system.

Cut the tubing and insert until you hear the click and in seconds you are finished. The spring steel clamp inside SmartClick closes around the outside of the tube sealing it onto the insert barb with two EPDM O-rings completing the connection.

SmartClick is the only PE-RT and PEX fitting system that you can quickly verify by sight. Through the sight glass you will see that the retention wedge has been displaced from the clamp. This visual verification confirms that you have made a secure, permanent and leak free connection.

SmartClick meets or exceeds all standards and requirements for potable water systems. It is for use in potable water plumbing and hydronic systems utilizing PE-RT (ASTM F 2769) or PEX (ASTM 876/877). SmartClick is patented.

SmartClick™ is five times faster than other PEX connectors.

Please join us in congratulating Ethan Hsuing on his promotion to Vice President-Supply Chain!

Our global supply chain is an integral part of our critical infrastructure. While its importance is immeasurable to all companies, it is even more so at Legend. Without careful management of all aspects of our supply chain, from our channel partners, to logistics, and everything in between, we cannot perform to the optimum levels required by our commitment to astonish our customers. Effective management of our global supply chain not only includes a steadfast commitment with unwavering attention, but it also requires a willingness to commit countless hours that go well into the night. As we often say; “Ethan’s real job starts when he goes home”. In addition, it requires an extensive knowledge of global transportation hubs, steamship lines and schedules, as well as optimum consolidation opportunities and rail networks. Those companies who maintain an efficient supply chain not only reduce their costs but more importantly, they maintain superior serviceability to their customers. Congratulations Ethan. Well done.

Toy and Canned Food Drive

In December, we once again participated in the The Marine Corp League for our annual Toy Drive. They are located in Waterford and work in conjunction with VFW Post #1080. The donations they collected were distributed first to families of veterans from all branches of our Armed Forces and then to needy children in our local community.

Volunteers who help out every year for the VFW

For our annual food drive, we chose to work with, The Neighborhood House. They are a non-profit organization located in Rochester that helps people from local communities who are faced with times of hardship. Their food pantry works in conjunction with the First Congregational Church to supply food baskets to the needy during the Christmas season.

Thank you to all who gave this Christmas! Whether it was toys for the children or food for the needy, we truly appreciate your giving this holiday season!
