VIDEO CREATOR AND ALL AROUND TECHIE
with the love for travel and nature thrown in..
Video Production for over 20 years
I started professional video production in California right after college. But before that I had been dabbling with video. It started in Canada, while I was still in high school, when in 1987 my uncle loaned me his Sony Hi8 camera. It opened my eyes to how creating a video suddenly was available to everyone, not just TV studios. During college, I became a goto person for video taping and editing on those Super VHS editing decks and cameras. When I graduated I worked for a small production company that introduced me to NewTek Video Toaster and 3D animation.
From there I went to Brazil and worked for a marketing and events company that was heavy into promotional videos for Avon, Tupperware and many other companies. I soon did the impossible with what we had, using the early versions of Lightwave 3D, AVID, Premiere and After Effects to create an unending stream of visuals and eye candy.
In 2003 I was back in the US while I studied and earned my MA. During this time I worked at Fresno Pacific University in the Media Arts Center, after which I returned to work in Brazil for a short while before I landed back in Canada.
My Ottawa Years
I spent 7 years living in Ottawa Canada. While there I worked at Carleton University creating many media projects. Here, scrolling down a bit, I will share just a few of the more exciting projects I produced while I was there. I also shot hours of academic lectures which are probably not what you want to watch right now.
This one was for the Science department in 2009
A video I produced for the Faculty of Engineering and Design
You might notice that a decision was made to do many of the interviews in these videos on a green screen in the studio instead of on location. This was done due to the noisy environments we found in the labs.
COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY CONSULTING
I have been the computer technology guru for many of my friends and employers for years. I built all of the computers I used in the early years, these days I have gone mostly Mac and have found it more efficient. In video production additional equipment and software needs to be factored into the equation. In starting at the beginning of the personal video revolution I have sought to always stay ahead of the game.
Sharing the knowledge
Sharing the knowledge about technology and video has always been one of my passions. There is so much to learn and much of that can be learned on your own in this day and age. Online learning has become the de facto method for many, buy for some they prefer to have a warm body in front leading them toward the learning outcomes.
