The earthquake and tsunami in Japan was by far the worst tragedy in the 2000's.

The death toll was approximately 227,898 people. The total energy of the tsunami was equal to 5 megatons of TNT.

The tsunami reached as far as South Africa. Indonesia was affected the worst. The earthquake was so horrible that it caused earthquakes in other parts of the world too.

The ENTIRE world moved 1 centimeter due to this earthquake. It was recorded as being 8 to 10 minutes long. It was the third largest earthquake and tsunami in history. It affected the entire world. One third of the people who died were children.

It took 30 billion dollars to rebuild Japan. Even now, they are still struggling to recover from the tsunami and earthquake. From the death toll to how much it affected the world, it truly proves that this is the most tragic and devasting thing that happened in the 2000's.
