Run, run as fast as you can! Nursery autumn term week 9

It was our first week out at forest school for half of the class (the others are waiting patiently for their turn!) and we did lots and lots of running in the big open spaces. After an initial 'But where are the toys?!' comment and discussion we discovered that the forest is full of opportunities for play.

Lots of smiles.
Who can run the fastest down the hill?
Time to refuel.

Taking of running, the most repeated phrase you will hear in Nursery at the moment is 'Run, run as fast as you can' because it's our key text for the next few weeks.

The Gingerbread man came to visit us! (YES it's me, but as we agreed, it's fun to pretend). The fox had eaten his buttons and he has decided that actually he doesn't want to be carried over the river on the foxes back, he would rather swim.
The Gingerbread man stayed to help us at the writing table.
And of course, we all wanted a turn to be the Gingerbread man.
Retelling the story.
We had a theory that swimming across the river was not a good idea. So we tested it.
Yep, if the gingerbread man swims across the river he will become soggy and sink.
It's a big problem we are yet to solve. How will the gingerbread man cross the river safely?

In English we are beginning to their about rhyming words. We sang a silly song about cooking rhyming soup in a fridge (gave us giggles!) and added words that rhyme with each other into our recipe. Yum!

A couple of other highlights in the photos below were a super maths conversation about number in the play dough area, gross motor skills with the chalk and water outside, a goldilocks maths problem, and some good old relaxation and mindfulness. We are loving all traditional tales in class at the moment, so if you have any at home now would be a good time to read them with your child.
