Radiographs went from 2D to 3D.
"The ability to look at a tooth, pathology or an anatomical situation in any direction and orientation, as well as in 3D, eliminates much of the guesswork commonly experienced with 2D radiographs." Dr Nick Fahey

  • Applications & Principles
  • Anatomy Re-Boot Camp
  • Risk & Liability
  • Reporting & Documentation Simplified
ROI..... "The dental x-ray image has the highest margin of anything you do in your dental practice." Dale Miles
"It’s one thing to have the opinion leader gurus and sales people tell you that you can "sell more dentistry". It’s quite another for you to understand the technology thoroughly, apply it wisely, and educate your patient to the benefits you and they will derive from the careful interpretation of the images including the "image processing"! Dale Miles
"We are processing the image electronically to extract features about a suspected disease process so we can make more precise clinical decisions – just like medical radiologists." Dale Miles

Prof. Dr. Dale Miles

Oral & Maxillfacial Radiologist, BA, DDS, MS, FRCD(C), USA

CAPE TOWN: FRI-SAT, 12-13 NOV 2021

14 CPD Points

Course Includes a Workbook / Manual by Dr Miles as used by Dr Gordon Christensen's annual PCC Program on CBCT at Gordon's Facility.

"The training is enhanced as a practical experience. A lot of the errors made by dentists who buy systems is due to lack of fundamental training in radiographic technique." Dale Miles

DAY 1; 8H30-16H30

MODULE I [3 hrs]

The Nuts, Bolts & Applications of CBCT

  • Why all the “buzz” about Cone Beam Imaging?
  • How does CBCT Work?
  • Why would I need it for my practice?

We use imaging every day in our office to help our clinical treatment decisions. The latest CBCT machines are amazing and cost effective.

Dr. Miles presents the principles and applications of dentistry’s newest imaging technology – Cone Beam CT. Come learn how to treat your patients more efficiently, expertly and Confidently by employing this technology. See how cost effective this technology can be.

This module will enable the dentist to:

  • Understand the principles of CBCT
  • Image acquisition and image reconstruction
  • Dose considerations
  • FOV (field of view) differences
  • Radiation Risk of CBCT imaging

Understand the CBCT Applications

  • Implant
  • TMJ
  • Third Molar Extraction > Root Canal Therapy
  • TMJ > Paranasal Sinus Evaluation when Teeth Ache
  • Airway Analysis

MODULE II [3 hrs]

Build your confidence for reviewing your cone beam data sets with THE ANATOMY REVIEW SESSION!

Once we adopt Cone Beam imaging, we need to re-educate ourselves to multi-planar anatomy. When did we ever view dental structures in the axial plane?

Dr. Miles reviews large (craniofacial) and small (dentoalveolar) volume anatomic structures in detail like you’ve never seen it before.

This program will enable the dentist to:

  • Identify basic anatomy in the multi-planar dentoalveolar images
  • Visualize anatomical detail in 2D and 3D grayscale, and color reconstruction
  • Identify large volume anatomy (craniofacial) the dentist must know in to use the technology

Course is facilitated by Vatech CBCT Units for hands-on learning. However a number of manufacturer images and solutions will be reviewed during the course.

DAY 2; 8H30-16H30

MODULE III [2 hrs]

“A Case of Mistaken Identity!”

Risk & Liability Associated with CBCT

  • Why does the CBCT anatomy look so different?
  • What if I miss "pathology" in my Cone Beam Scan?
  • What is my risk?> How can I minimize that risk?

Dentists are requesting more and more cone beam scans for impacted teeth, implant and sinus assessment, and TMJ imaging to help their clinical treatment decisions.

Dr. Miles has read thousands of cases sent to him by dentists to look for “occult pathology”. He will present the case for reducing your risk from missing pathology on scans and present information on liability and risk reduction.

He will present cases he has examined which had serious and, in some cases, potentially life altering consequences.

This module will enable the dentist will be able to:

  • Understand the potential liabilities for this modality
  • Understand the importance of reviewing all slice data
  • Review and visualize cases with significant systemic findings
  • Develop a "risk management" strategy for using cone beam imaging

MODULE IV [3+ hrs]

Reporting & Documentation of CBCT Findings

Laptop Required (Please state on registration if you require assistance with a laptop.)

  • PC based with Windows 10 including all updates
  • CPU: Intel i5 or higher
  • RAM: 4GB or higher
  • HDD: 512GB (7,500 RPM SATA or Above)
  • GRAPHIC CARD: Nvidia GTX 1050Ti or Equivalent, 2GB or Higher
  • OS: Windows 10

This component is designed to demonstrate a simple, educational decision support and reporting software. Participants will use these tools in a “hands-on” clinical manner to practice detecting common findings in scan cases provided and producing a comprehensive CBCT report.

Enable the dentist to:

  • Reinforce locating conditions/findings in CBCT scans taught in the lecture portion
  • Practice using the decision support/report software
  • Create a completely documented CBCT report for their electronic record or referral
PaX-i3D Smart - No More Than What You Want, No Less Than What You Need.

One scan with the Smart gives you not just a CT image but also an Auto Pano image. This means, patients who require both images do not need to undergo two X-ray scans. Also CT and Auto Pano images are displayed within the One Viewer feature. Also features Magic Pan.
