HISTOry
VOICES OF CARMEN a Creative Collaboration and Conversation, is more than a musical adaptation of a classic story, it’s an opportunity to create new work through youth centered conversation and creative development. This original production written and directed by CJay Philip, debuted in Baltimore, Maryland Summer 2019 before being presented at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.
The show set in a High School, is filled with fresh yet familiar renditions from the opera Carmen as well as original music and rhythms that capture the voice and soul of todays youth. A theme within the production is crossroads and the critical moments of reaction that lead you down one road or another. Join the #CarmenConversation as we examine varying levels of conflict and the pivotal moments that can change the course of your life.

I am truly grateful for all the encouragement and enthusiasm so many of you have shown for Voices of Carmen. Dance & Bmore's new program for adolescents is already creating the kind of community dialogue we had hoped, both locally and nationally. The potential impact on the young people participating and the hundreds who will come to see it is considerable.
The saying, "It takes a village to raise a child" has never been so true. It will take all of us to raise the funds needed to create this life changing opportunity for Baltimore youth. We welcome your in-kind donations as well as a variety of gifts. Scroll the gift list below and take your pick. You will receive our heartfelt thank you along with an online ticket to the show and VIP after party, an original cast album, and lots of exciting memorabilia! Thank you for your generosity and support of this youth leadership and training program.
Sincerely,
CJay Philip
