Monkton Park Newsletter 8th February 2019

Heather Stanning

We were delighted to have 2 x Olympic gold medal winning Heather Stanning visit us last Thursday. Heather was in Chippenham to open Aldi alongside some Sports Ambassadors from Monkton Park School. Heather then came to visit us afterwards, doing a brilliant assembly all about team work.

Heather then awarded the school with the AfPE quality award for PE.

Online Safety

Online Safety Day was on Tuesday and our KS2 children spent time thinking about consent. As part of this we thought about asking permission before posting pictures of others, when to click 'allow' and what information is safe to send online. On 3rd April we have online safety expert, Karl hopwood coming to school and he will be running a parents session. This will start at 6.30pm and would be suitable for parents of children in all year groups.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance

Thank you to Wiltshire Air Ambulance who came in this week to spend time with Owls and Squirrels class. The children got to learn some first aid and learn all about how the air ambulance operates.

Chinese New Year

On Tuesday the children from KS1 celebrated Chinese New Year. They dressed in red and gold costumes, made Chinese lanterns & Cookies, read Chinese stories and tried Chinese food. The also made a giant Chinese dragon costume!

As part of their Tudor topic KS2 are visiting Hampton Court Palace on Thursday 7th March. The cost of the trip is £16.00.

Permission and payment for both trips can be made using Parent Pay or cash/cheques to the school office.

Junior Parkrun - This Sunday

It is Chippenham Junior Parkrun's 3rd Birthday this Sunday in Monkton Park. If your child is a regular, hasn't been down in a while or is still waiting to make those tentative first steps to run, jog, walk, hop, skip or jump around the park it'd be great if they could join in with the celebrations.

If it is your first time arrive a little bit early at 8:50am for a briefing, just down from the Tenth Hole Tearooms. You should be able to spot a friendly gaggle of hi-vis volunteers waiting to answer any questions you have. A main briefing will follow shortly after at 9am.

More details can be found on the website:

T-Trak Club at Trainwest Model Railway Show, Corsham.

Thanks to our effort at the Calne show, the T-Trak Club layout has been invited to the “Trainwest” show in Corsham on 13/14 April. More details about the show are available at trainwest.org.uk. There will be a free heritage bus service to the show from Chippenham railway station so hopefully some pupils and parents will be interested in coming as spectators.

School Disco

FOMPS will be running another school disco on Wednesday 13th February. Please see the poster below. To reduce our plastic cup waste we now have cups for the children to use (kindly donated by a parent), which we will wash and reuse. Feel free to send your child in with their own labelled cup if you prefer.

To help our resident DJ find your child's favourite song, please complete the song request form or write it on a separate piece of paper and hand in to the office by Tuesday 12th February - he will do his best to find and play your song on the night! We look forward to seeing you there.
