Temperate Deciduous Forest CHINA

Climate of the Forest in China

Average rainfall: 30 to 60 inches a year

Average temperature: -30°C to 30°C

The yearly average is typically 10°C. The Deciduous Forest usually has hot summers and cold winters. They go through four seasons in which their leaves change color during the fall, fall off during the winter, grow back in the spring, and stay on throughout summer.

Net Primary PRODUCTIVITY

Deciduous Temperate Forests according to the chart, definitely do not have the highest net primary productivity but we are one of the highest, which also is the same for approximate kilocalories per square meter. Typically, these forests are located in the mid-latitude areas where they are found between the polar regions and the tropics. We have a wide range of all different animal and plant species. Lichen, moss, ferns, wildflowers and other small plants are the most common to be found on the floor of the forest. Shrubs and trees including maple, oak, birch, magnolia, sweet gum and beech are also species in the forest. Common animals/insects that can be found are spiders, slugs, frogs, turtles and salamanders. Along with birds like hawks, cardinals, snowy owls, and woodpeckers and mammals like deer, raccoons, opossums, porcupines and red foxes. Latitude is on continent of Asia around 30° to 45° North latitude, and about 130° to 145° East longitude.

Soil Quality

When the leaves in the forest decompose, the nutrients are absorbed by the soil which makes the soil very fertile. Having fertile soil results in this biome being used for agriculture or building.

Invasive and Endangered

Invasive Tropical Bont Tick

The Tropical Bont Tick produces and spreads disease to livestock which cuts the supplies of milk and meat in the habitat. Was said to be found from accidentally spreading through livestock.

Endangered Giant Pandas

Mostly this species is found in China's deciduous forests. Bamboo is limited to certain areas which results in the Panda species being limited too. During the Ice Ages 12,000 years ago when climates were cooler, Giant Pandas had a far larger distribution but now they are extremely endangered. Climate change, population, and limited resources are the parts of HIPPCO that apply to this species.

The White-tailed deer are highly adaptable. They are grazers and the deciduous forest plants help satisfy their hunger.

Red-tailed hawks are also very adaptable. Most of their prey are located in deciduous forests. They stay high in the trees and use their eyesight to stay away from predators. This biome is perfect for them since survive in all different climates and altitudes.

The Snowy Owl also eats species that only live in Deciduous Forests. With the ability to also adapt anywhere, they stay quiet throughout the night hunting for their prey deep in the forest.

Lichens survive in some of the most barren and severe regions of the world. They survive through extreme cold and dry conditions. They actually require little rainfall to survive which is why they adapt in Deciduous Forests.

Wildflowers can be found blooming before the trees have leafed out in Deciduous Forests. They also adapt highly to conditions and are one of the most popular flowers found in the forests

Maple trees can tolerate a wide range of habitat conditions and uses many different types of resources in Deciduous Forests.
