Academic & Athletic Excellence 2019 Little East Conference All-Academic Team

Thirty-two huskies

Thirty-two University of Southern Maine Student-Athlete earned All-Academic Team honors from the Little East Conference. All seven Little East Conference sponsored teams supported by Huskies' Athletics had representation on the team.

To earn the honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in standing, and have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.30 or higher.

The student-Athlete

Thirteen different majors are represented by the Huskies' 32 Little East Conference All-Academic team roster - with areas of academic study ranging from Criminology, Linguistics, History, Health Science and Economics to name a few.

Huskies can do it all

The most dominant major of the 2019 LEC Fall All-Academic with nine honorees: Nursing. With at least one future nurse on the men's cross country, field hockey and women's soccer, women's volleyball boasts three nursing majors.

Nursing student, Husky student-athlete CJ Moody. Moody is a member of the University of Southern Maine's men's cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field programs. A 2019 NCAA Division III All-American, Moody also earned CoSIDA Academic All-American honors as a junior.

huskies Achieve in the classroom

The Huskies' women's tennis team, the 2018-2019 Remo Riciputi Award winner, had four members of its squad to the LEC All-Academic Team.

Of the 32 University of Southern Maine fall student-athletes to earn Little East Conference All-Academic honors, 20 of our Huskies had at least a 3.5 GPA or higher. Two student-athletes earned GPAs of 4.0: women's cross country sophomore Taylor Chamberlain - a biochemistry major, and field hockey sophomore Abbie Sprague - a nursing major.

Not a stranger to academic achievement, Abbie Sprague was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association All-Academic Squad and was a 2018 NCAA Division III Scholar of Distinction earning a 4.0 at the conclusion of her freshman season.

The Huskies' men's cross country team captured its fourth consecutive Little East Conference championship in the fall, and had five members of the team earn All-Academic honors.

Women's Soccer

Five members of the Huskies' women's soccer team earned All-Academic honors from the Little East Conference, including 2018 All-LEC midfielder Alexandria Allain. Allain is quickly moving up the Huskies' career record books in just two full seasons, and is 16th in career points with 12 goals and 10 assists (2018, 2019).

Women's Tennis

Huskies' women's tennis, in addition to capturing the University's Remo Riciputi Award for the third consecutive season, participated in the 2019 Rally For the Cure on September 29. This initiative helped raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Research.

Five members of the Huskies' women's cross country team qualified for LEC Academic honors representing four different majors.

FIELD HOCKEY

Another successful season for the Huskies, USM advanced to the semifinals of the LEC Championship and had five student-athletes earn All-Conference recognition, including All-Academic team members Samantha Ellis, Makayla Garvin, Lindsay Pych and Maggie Redman. In total, nine members of the Huskies' 2019 squad earned All-Academic honors from the Little East.

Prior to the start of his final game, senior Dalton Cassidy was recognized along side of his family. He was awarded the captain's armband for his final contest.

Volleyball

Huskies' volleyball made its third appearance in the last four seasons in the Little East Conference tournament. All three of the Huskies to earn academic honors from the LEC are nursing majors.
