Tiny Hoppers wins best daycare in Burlington By- Brittany lodwich

Gillian Mathais and Sheriene Milad have been proud owners of Tiny Hoppers since November of 2015. Their years of hard work have finally paid off with their two recent Readers Choice awards for best Daycare and Nursery school. The partnership between the two had been an adventure of many hardships as any first time business owner. "This is something that is very near and dear to our hearts" Mathias says.

Their story started when Milad; a childcare worker for 25 years, had an idea that she wanted to open up her own daycare. She soon fell into a partnership with her friend and co-worker Gillian Mathias, and grew a daycare from the ground up. In the beginning they had their doubts that the business would even take off, since it had been a few months without having anyone enrolled. "It was chriatmas time and nobody was worried about daycare, so it was very quiet and no body was ringing bells, there was nothing." said Milad. But finally, "We started in January with 5 kids and then it kept growing until the summer when we had about 15. By the end of summer we had 37 per day, and now were full!"

It was the best feeling in the world and a shocking experience. I was so excited because we're just opened for 1 year. Then we were told that we won and I went crazy. I couldn’t keep my excitement contained.- Gillian Mathias

Mathias explains all of the hard work it takes to open up and run your own business. "I think it was the best feeling in the world to know that we were nominated because the journey since we started was so tough and I just wanted to give up sometimes because it was consuming my life." Both ladies have always had a passion for working with children and now their passion has become their daily routine.
