John Lee Dog Park & Joinville Park san mateo, ca

San Mateo offers a lot of walking paths and outdoor space.

This park is a fenced dog park within a larger recreational area, similar to Seal Point Dog Park, which actually, isn't too far away. So many parks to play in!

John Lee Park is the actual fenced dog park. It's basic, but what's nice is that it's ALL grass!

There's basically no cover here so on warm days it gets HOT.

Looking for shade

It's also near a water filtration center so sometimes when the wind blows just right, there's a peculiar smell. I think it's ok but mom always think it's gross.

What's funny about this park is some of the fence posts have names engraved in them. I don't know what they mean but it's a nice touch.

Those are some serious pooper scoopers!

Trying to get here can be a little confusing. It's best to park near Joinville Park, which has a playground, tennis courts and a huge open grassy area, and then walk through it to get to the dog park.

Dog park scenery

And for those of you pups who need more space to run around and are ok off leash, then this part of the park is perfect for you. Fur parents, just be aware there aren't water fountains.

Your fur parents want to know:

  • No, there's no parking lot (only street parking)
  • Yes, this is a fenced enclosure
  • No, there is no separate area for small dogs
  • Yes, there are doggy (and human) water fountains
  • Yes, there are poop bags
  • Yes, there are trash bins
  • Yes, there are benches
  • No, there are no toilets
