Pastors' News

It has been a wonderful start to the school year and I’m slowly getting to know all your children through class visits and time spent together at Chapel. I’m excited for the year ahead and the opportunity to journey with all the students.

This year our theme for Middle/Senior School Chapel is ‘Dare to Be…’, which will be exploring different concepts and ideas which God has called us to be/do. Our Junior School will be exploring a very similar concept with the theme ‘Called to Be…’. As a Chaplaincy team we are excited to see how this will unfold throughout the year and are confident that it will truly have a positive impact on the spiritual journeys of all our students.

This week our Senior School students were involved in the combined Days of Worship held at Macarthur Adventist College with all the other Adventist Schools in Sydney. This was a fantastic opportunity for them to connect with other peers and also to worship God in an atmosphere that is catered to their age group.

I look forward to meeting all the families as the year goes on.

Blessings, Pr Eden

Learning Support

In the Junior School we provide a range of support for students, to assist students in striving to reach their full potential. The type of support provided is based on the learning needs of the students and can involve support within the classroom or small group settings. Learning support teachers work alongside the classroom teachers to provide programs that target student requirements. We aim to support students who are experiencing difficulty, students who are working within a normal range for their year and require enrichment in one or two areas, and those who require extension in their learning journey.

Year 11 Art Express Excursion - Wednesday 4th March 2020

Year 11 Visual Arts students attended the annual Art Express Exhibition at the Gallery of NSW on Wednesday this week. Students were inspired by all the expressive body of artworks and the presentation of their Visual Arts process diaries exhibited by the 2019 Year 12 Visual Arts candidates across the state. They all took photos of their favourite artworks and wrote down notes as to why they were inspired by paying attention to the artist’s statement, technical artistic skills and choice of medium used. It was a great day of inspiration for them particularly with respect to their upcoming assessment task on their Visual Process diaries and also for their HSC major works.

Senior School Day of Worship - 4th & 5th March 2020

Years 9 & 10 - Wednesday 4th March

On the 4th of March, Years 9 and 10 went to Macarthur Adventist School for the Years 9&10 Senior School Day of Worship, 2020. We were welcomed warmly as family, by both students and the pastor and had the opportunity to finally meet both past and current friends in our sister schools. The theme, dare to be, focused on God-given gifts and talents, and how to recognize them in ourselves and each other. Three women got up on stage to speak about their talents and share them with us. We watched creative expression, poetry and singing as they channeled their passions towards something larger than themselves, God. The speakers each encouraged us to challenge ourselves by using our gifts to tell others about Christ, enlightening students by telling their stories as they give their lives to Christ.

Canteen

Food has historically provided a way of bringing people together, and last week saw a number of our students and staff engaging in some Winter Menu serving and sampling activity. Smashed avocado with fetta and bruschetta on sourdough seemed to be a hit!

Pupils are encouraged to come and visit us anytime to learn more about our menu options, nutrition and upcoming specials. Menu suggestions are also warmly welcomed as we desire to provide our school community with fresh, healthy food that is in line with recipe favourites!

We also love having student volunteers to help with service, food prep and other canteen tasks. A HUGE thank you to those hard working individuals who have already given up recess and lunch times to assist us.

The WAS Canteen would love your help throughout the year if you have some spare time - no previous food handling skills are required - please visit us at the canteen any time to express your interest. There is no minimum time requirement or set days. We are very happy to accept any assistance you may be able to give.

Meals With Love!

Do you know a school family that would benefit from a homecooked meal? Maybe there's a new baby or a sick family member or a family that would appreciate a bit of extra support? We'd love to be able to provide a meal for them. Please send us an email and we can organise a meal to be sent to their home.

Of course, if you would like to provide a freezer meal or lunch box snack we would love that too! We have weekly meals being distributed this term and every meal donated helps! We do ask that no pork or shellfish products be donated please. Don't forget to list the ingredients used, along with the date the food was prepared and please see the Canteen if you would like storage containers.

A big thank you to our volunteers who have already provided food and thank you for supporting this school initiative!
