Young Life 5K What a day! Beautiful morning, Enthusiastic runners, lots of fun!

What a day!

It was a gorgeous sunny morning for the 5th annual Young Life 5K on Saturday May 7. Over 190 participants and volunteers gathered at Silverwood Park in St. Anthony to run, walk, push a stroller, or ride a bike to raise money for kids to go to Young Life Camp this summer.

Warming up for the Big Event

Intense competition

Some runners were in it to win. Others were out to enjoy a morning walk with a friend, spouse, or pet. Prizes were awarded to these top runners:

  • Top male student: Sam Morrisette
  • Top female student: Isabelle Roe
  • Top male adult: Scott Koke
  • Top female adult: Leah Kluz

Why did they do it?

Over $3,000 was raised for kids' camp fees this summer. Several students raised one quarter to one third of their camp fees. One ambitious Young Lifer had enough friends and family running or walking to bring in over half of the cost of her trip! Due to the generous support of our sponsors, 100% of the race fees helped to fund a Young Life or WyldLife student's trip to Frontier Ranch in Colorado, the Castaway Club in northern Minnesota, Backpacking in Colorado, or a Mission Trip in Leech Lake, Minnesota.

Everyone enjoyed the beauty of Silverwood Park, and there was a party atmosphere at the finish where everyone enjoyed coffee, snacks, and the photo booth. Many runners won one of the amazing prizes that were generously donated, including restaurant gift cards, Minnesota Wild gear, shirts, movie tickets, and flowers. Participants left feeling good about their 5K workout!

Special thanks to Presbyterian Homes, Leslie Golie Realty, Brighton Unique Auto, and Uneek Tie-Dye for underwriting our expenses. Thanks to all the various businesses and individuals who donated items for the drawing giveaway. We also want to give a shout out to Ray’s Roast for providing delicious fresh brewed coffee, as well as thank all the various businesses and individuals who donated items for the drawing giveaway. Finally, a huge thank you to all of our volunteers who came to help register participants, work the water station, serve donut holes and bananas, take photos, and do everything else to make the race happen. We are already making plans for the 2017 YL 5K. We hope you’ll join us!
