Selena Quintanilla By: Genesis Padilla

Selena Quintanilla was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas. At a young age Selena started to preform and was known at the Mexican Madonna. She became a lead singer in her family's band at the age of 10. The band had only played at parties like weddings and clubs around Texas. Selena grew up speaking and singing in English and her father eventually taught her how to speak Spanish. She had first started to sing in spanish and then as she kept on learning she spoke Spanish fluently.

In 1987 Selena became a spokesperson for Coca-cola. She had also wont the tejano Music award for best female vocalist between 1986-1996. Was the first female latin-american to become a singer. She had sold about 20,000,000 albums in just about 6 years. Her 2 most famous songs "dreaming of you" and "amor prohibido" each sold 5,000,000 copies. In 1993 she had come out with her own clothing line. She also open 2 boutiques in 1994.

Selena Quintanilla's died on march 31, 1995. Her cause of death was she was shot by her close friend
