Pope's Creek, VA

George Washington was born on a farm in Pope's Creek, VA in 1731. He grew up on a farm called Ferry Farm.

George's father died when George was 2 years old. There was little money to send George to school. He only went to school through elementary school.

As a young man, George worked as a surveyor helping to map out the new world. He joined the army.

Washington became the general of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.

He was elected President of the new country twice. After serving 2 terms as a president, he retired to Mt. Vernon and worked as a farmer.

George Washington died in December 1799.
