myspace a social media your grandma remembers

Myspace is a social media that was popular around when we were born. It was created in 2003, and started getting popular around 2005. It literally lets you create your own space, hence its name. Chris DeWolfe is the CEO. The original owner is Viant Technology. The headquarters are located in Beverly Hills, California. It has vlogs, pictures, videos, etc. Some people became famous off of Myspace for like singing or making video games. In 2005-2009, it was deemed the most popular social media in the world; in June 2006 it was the most visited site, surpassing Google. In June 2011, Specific Media Group and Justin Timberlake bought the company for $35 million. In June 2009, there were approximately 1,600 employees; after the company was purchased, there we 200 employees. In January 2006, the owners decided to launch myspace to the UK; later they also launched one in China and other countries. On November 1, 2007, Myspace joined the OpenSocial alliance, which is led by Google. OpenSocial promoted a set of standards for software developers to write programs for social networks. Myspace reached the height of its career in late 2007- 2008; it was also during this time considered the largest social network in the world. On April 19, 2008, Facebook surpassed Myspace on the social media rank. Since then, Myspace has less and less members. Shawn Gold, former Myspace head of marketing and content, said, "Myspace went too wide and not deep enough in its product development. We went with a lot of products that are shallow and not the best products in the world." People at Microsoft say that Myspace was a weird business, because it was popular, became unpopular, and then people forgot about it, as if it vanished. Myspace was not really a business that had much effect for a while, contrary to other medias. Myspace had problems with malware, phishing, vandalism and spam. Facebook is more successful at attracting grandpas than Myspace. They also had problems wit management of employees and they layed off a lot of people. So Myspace was a pretty crappy social media. When Facebook became popular, a lot of people stopped using it. I never used Myspace and I have no intention of doing so for a variety of reasons: 1. it's dumb 2. its crappy 3. it's old 4. there are new things that I can use.
