2018 Annual Report LIberty corner presbyterian church

The year 2018 was a year of change and growth for Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church – a year of reflection, reconciliation, and reaching.

We reflected on where we have been and gave thanks for those who came before. We engaged in difficult conversations and reconciled differences. We learned to “Do Conflict Well.” We reached out in new directions and worked together to discover new vision.

Together, we are reaching out – stepping into the future that God has planned for us.

Worship brought us together...

Sharing the Light of Christ on Christmas Eve

We spent “summer2gether” in combined worship once-a-month, alternating locations between the Sanctuary and Center Court. We worshipped over a meal on Maundy Thursday, and gathered as one big family for the Live Nativity.

At the Live Nativity on December 9, we worshipped together as one community, followed by crafts, food, live nativity on the lawn, music, and a photo booth.

Messages taught us that “Broken Can be Beautiful,” and “Less Can Be More.” We were reminded of the “Abundant Life” offered through Jesus and encouraged to “Live on Purpose.” We celebrated the Lord’s Supper together, baptized eight people, and confirmed 11 Seekers.

In studentLIFE, Seekers learned about taking the next steps in faith. On Sunday, May 20, 2018, Seekers professed their faith in worship.

"Our contemporary service seems more like those of the first Christians. No dress up. More spontaneous. No restraint to tell a brother or sister in Christ about prayer needs, or to listen to theirs. It is wonderful to feel and see the Holy Spirit working there."

- Rone, member

We learned together.

Special guests Raphael and Aly Giglio helped us understand the Last Supper in a new way.

Spiritual Growth provided a new opportunity for Faith Cafe (9:15 am & 10:30 am), so that more of us could attend, no matter which worship service we prefer. Classes supported and expanded on the Sunday messages and allowed for deeper discussion. We built friendships in Connect Groups as we learned how to have Resilient Faith. TraVERSEing the Word, men’s and women’s Bible studies, and Q-Place offered safe places to grow in faith.

"It’s just awesome to walk together as we grow. Faith Cafe gives us that weekly opportunity."

- Aaron, Spiritual Growth leader

During Liberty Corner Kids, we learned together how much God loves us through hands-on activities, games, scripture, and prayer. We tried something new – offering a once-a-month class during 9:15 am worship.

"Liberty Corner Kids is the reason we chose LCPC. LCKids is the only children's ministry we found that offered our three children a true and meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ, while still being fun and exciting. Our children have developed such a strong faith , I know that whatever obstacles they may face, they will overcome them because of the values, love, and Bible-based instruction they have received from LCKids programs!"

- Amanda, Liberty Corner Kids parent

Worship during the High School Retreat

In studentLIFE, we took the next steps in faith. We met weekly in middle6to8 for conversations, games, and lessons. We learned what it means to claim faith for our own in Seekers. We strengthened relationships and made faith commitments on life-changing retreats.

"As a student from Ridge it was hard to make friends, but at the church it's a safe place to be yourself and make good experiences with people and your faith."

- Royner, grade 12

During Sports Camp, we learned to break free, with God’s help, from all that hinders us. We showed up for our favorite week of summer – over 120 volunteers and 100+ campers.

Sport Camp was an action-packed week of skills training, music, and relevant Bible lessons.

Through The Children's Corner, we provided learning opportunities for children in the community in a loving, Christ-centered environment. STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) curriculum piqued natural curiosity and established a foundation for a continued love of learning.

"I have witnessed my children grow academically and spiritually through The Children's Corner. The loving environment has nurtured their kindness, encouraged their strengths, and set the foundation for years of learning. Most importantly, though, is knowing their 'school family' is caring for them as I would when I can’t be there."

- Karyn, TCC parent

The Children's Corner held their first school-wide Christmas musical - an adorable success!

Together, we put our faith into action.

A fresh coat of paint on Mission Monday

We gave our time and talents – teaching Sunday school, mentoring students, installing new technology on campus, serving in leadership, weeding and watering, singing and playing music, and more.

“We are working to serve one of the most vulnerable portions of our church - our teens and young adults. We provide one of the few places for them to ask the questions that can help grow their faith."

– Don, volunteer leader

We gave in-kind -- books, puzzles, coats, knitted items, VBS supplies, LEGO, Giving Tree gifts, and more. We gave money to support mission partners like Hearts For Honduras, Malawi Visions, New City Kids, Interfaith Hospitality Network, missionaries, and others.

1: New City Kids traveled to La Entrada, Honduras to share information with Hearts For Honduras about their teen internship programs. 2: The first 7th grade class at Hearts For Honduras. 3 & 4: Over 7,000 books were donated to the library and media centers in Malawi, Africa.

We repaired and painted a home on Mission Mondays. We packed Operation Christmas Child boxes, made prayer pretzels and special gifts for Meals on Wheels recipients, and more for Give Love Away projects.

Students in grades 3-8 put their faith into action with Give Love Away projects.

We cared for each other...

...with meals from Shepherd’s Pantry, through GriefShare, DivorceCare, AA and ACA, hours of support through Stephen Ministry, with prayer, through the Benevolence Fund, with personal visits and more.

We grew together.

We assessed where we are with the help of The Center through the Church Health Survey. We stepped up in leadership – serving on Transition Team, Catalyst Team, and the Pastor Nominating Committee. We reached out in faith, trusting God’s guidance as we work through the next step of the Pastor Search Process.

And now…we walk together into 2019, grateful for the blessings and growth of 2018 and looking forward to a new day of shared ministry.
