Venture Out Callan's Venture Path Runner
The best gifts to recieve are those made by hand. When somebody puts time and energy into a project it shows how much they care about you. That is why with my sister's birthday coming up I thought I would build her up a nice old steel frame, albeit one that still fit her laidback personality. This mountain bike / cruiser is what I came up with.
I went with a purple theme for this bike. Some purple ODI bar ends started the build off.
I custom painted the brackets on an old pair of Chang-Star brake levers I had. They are big, solid four-finger levers.
I kept on the stock thumb shifter for the 1x5 gear system.
I wish I had a photo of these pedals in broad daylight. In sunlight they turn from the white plastic to a gorgeous translucent purple.
The original chain and Sugino crankset add to the vintage appeal and functionality of this bike. If it ain't broke...
This bike had an old version of Shimano Tourney.
The rear rack has rusted nicely over the years. I didn't have the heart to scrub it off or replace it. It is part of the bike's story.
I am a big fan of making bikes do things they weren't designed to do. This was originally an easy-going cruisy bike that was meant for town rides. Since it had 26" wheels though, I thought I'd add a bit of Dirtbag flair to it. It has big chunky mud tires to let it rip wherever Cal wants it to.
