Materials needed: large candy canes, one sized marshmellows.
Exploration Time - 5-10 minutes ---take pictures for conversation. Discussion- 10-15 minutes. Guiding questions for discussion: How many marshmellows did you use? Did anyone get a different number? Why do you think we have different numbers? Did anyone get the same? How do we make an accurate number? Would 50 be accurate? Can anyone construct an argument about their number? Have students show how they measured? Discuss the gaps, overlaps.
