March's Meeting & Newsletter Caterham WI

Carshalton lavender

Join us on the 15th March at 7pm for 7.30pm for a wonderful talk by Kathleen and Louisa from Carshalton Lavender, a not-for-profit community project that manages three acres of lavender in Carshalton Beeches, Surrey. This area was once famous as “the lavender capital of the world”, and they work to keep the heritage of local lavender alive for current and future generations.

Carshalton Lavender is staffed entirely by volunteers. They work together to organise the annual harvest weekend in July (open to public), to maintain the field, to distil the Carshalton Lavender oil, to give talks to local schools and community groups and much more.

Carshalton Lavender was named Conservation Project of the Year at the 2007 Observer Ethical Awards and were highly commended in the Sutton Green Guardian Awards 2009.

The talk will be on the history of lavender and the Carshalton project with the opportunity for you all to ask questions. The ladies will also be bringing lavender crafts and other lavender related products for you to purchase.

DONATIONS

Thank you to everyone who gave donations last month for our chosen charity, Stripey Stork. They were very gratefully received and there are photos on Facebook. This month we would really like to donate Mother's Day gifts to the charity for them to give out with the children's items. So please can you keep an eye out for nice little things that would make good gifts, such as bath smellies, chocolates, scented candles etc. Please also bring along any other normal donations.

VOLUNTEERING

Stripey Stork would love to welcome volunteers from Caterham WI on a Monday morning from 9:30am-12:30pm. If you would like to volunteer please drop us an email at caterhamwi@hotmail.com and we can send you the details.
