SOPHOMORE REVIEW/SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS
Statement of Goals & Interest
The Statement of Goals and Interests should be between 200-300 words, and answer the following three questions in separate paragraphs (approximately 100 words each):
- Why did you choose a degree in Art & Design?
- What motivates your creative work?
- What work in your portfolio do you consider to be the strongest work and why?
This brief statement will give the reviewers insight into your goals and interests. It is not an artist statement, although you should include a brief, one-sentence statement explaining each work, in addition to indicating the class the work was created for.
JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS
200-300 word Artist Statement
Junior Scholarship applicants will write a 200-300 word Artist Statement to support their application. The Artist Statement should focus on conceptual, material, and technical considerations for the work and briefly list any influences in their practice.
VISUAL WORK (Sophomore & Junior)
10-15 images of work created in UWM classes, or in classes from transfer credit courses. Works included must have been created in a Studio Art class from UWM or a transfer institution. You cannot include personal projects or work from high school.
Include relevant information about the work in the image caption such as the Work Title (use Untitled if you don't have a work title), Medium (ask your area Professors if you are unsure of what to put here), Dimensions of the work in inches Width x Height x Depth (Depth isn't usually needed for 2D works), and Year created. Include a brief, one-sentence explanation for each work to provide context for the work for the reviewers.
