JILL JELNICK

2014 Pirate Graduate

Jill Jelnick is the weekend sports anchor for Channel 3 Eyewitness News and sports reporter during the week. She comes to Chattanooga from the WNCT-TV in Greenville, NC where she has been a sports reporter. In Greenville, she reported on local teams for the station's high school football show. Born and raised in Aliso Viejo, California, Jill grew up playing soccer, basketball, and softball. She was recruited to the east coast to play softball for East Carolina University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in English with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Jill remained in school to earn a Master's degree in Teaching. On the field, Jill became the first softball player in program history to be named to the C-USA All-Academic Team three times and batted .328 her senior year.

HALI OUGHTON

Originally from Redondo Beach, California, Oughton is a graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor's degree in journalism and a minor in sports studies, where she was also a four-year starter and team captain on the women’s soccer team. Hali Oughton joined The American staff in 2014 and was named to her current role as Assistant Director of Digital Media and Reporter in 2016. She is responsible for creating and executing the conference’s multimedia strategy. Oughton created The American’s original weekly show ‘The Rise’ in 2014, and oversees the writing, editing, and producing of the conference's video pieces. Before Oughton landed at The American, she was the Manager of Digital Media at the Tennessee Smokies, the Chicago Cubs' AA affiliate, where she produced team video content and was a co-host of the pregame show.
