Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders Onboarding guide for community members

Introduction

The Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders was founded in 2014 to support an ambitious Paris Agreement and bold corporate climate action by setting ambitious targets, reducing our own emissions and inspiring others to do the same. Today, the Alliance is a global network of CEOs who continue to set the bar higher and catalyze action acrossall sectors and engage policy makers to help deliver the transition to a net-zero economy.

CEO Membership

The Alliance is open to all global CEOs from the World Economic Forum's member and partner companies. Each member company is invited to nominate one or two points of contact (Senior Advisor/s) to join the Senior Advisory Group and represent the CEO’s engagement in the initiative. Senior Advisors join monthly meetings and climate action working groups.

The Alliance is the only CEO-led climate action initiative. This enables the group to play an influential role within the business community, their specific sector, and in engagement with government leaders and policy makers. The group is also unique in being able to utilize the World Economic Forum’s convening platforms, stakeholders and partners, to forward the climate action agenda. This is particularly important given the need for increased private and public sector collaboration to address climate change.

Priorities for 2021

Aligning our membership to a Paris-trajectory

The Alliance aims to be the most ambitious CEO-led Alliance in the world, with a broad and diverse, highly engaged membership aligned to a Paris-compliant emissions pathway. Members aim for ambitious short- and longterm goals, demonstrating progress on emissions by 2025 and 2030.

Supporting COP26 through policy advocacy and private sector climate leadership

The Alliance seeks to change the political context, enabling a full net-zero transformation of the global economy through increased climate policy action. In the run up to COP26 the Alliance will be a key voice of the private sector pushing governments for ambitious NDCs (nationally determined contributions) and policy frameworks.

Forming climate action groups to find cross-cutting solutions among members

The Alliance will work together to enable increased action through best-practice sharing and crosscutting projects along value chains and challenging climate topics. Members will work on concrete breakthrough ideas and generate emissions reductions headlines in the run up to COP26 by working together in focussed climate action groups.
